Hiking fun experienced together: take part in the Best of Hiking-Events 2010:

img_1957.jpg

Trekking- and outdoorcamp in the Winterberg region (Ferienwelt Winterberg), familiy-outdoor-days and geocaching-events in the region of Surselva/Graubünden, exploring tours in Müllerthal-region, and the first hiking tour with a firework display in the Hochschwarzwald (disctrict in the South of Baden-Württemberg, part of the Black Forest).

Feeling safe and being able to rely on oneself while hiking. Being alone. Enjoying the silence. Enjoying nature together. That’s not only possible, it’s a sure thing –  granted that neither the shoes one wears nor the backpack feel uncomfortable and the downpour doesn’t lead to a cold.
This is what Best of Hiking stands for: thorough preparation, innovation and hospitality. Best of Hiking is a cooperation consisting of European hiking regions, manufacturers of hiking equipment, travel agents, and online mail-order businesses. Since the beginning of 2007 hikers have been able to check out hiking material in the destinations free of charge. In 2010 hiking fun can be experienced together when taking part in exceptional hiking events to test shoes, umbrellas or layered clothing.
The Best of Hiking-Events 2010 offer lots of fun and adventures: starting from the trekking and outdoorcamp in the Winterberg region in the Sauerland (a rural, hilly area spreading across most of the south-eastern part of North Rhine-Westphalia), to the snow shoe and Eskimo-event including igloo-building in the Ammergauer Alps in Bavaria to the familiy-outdoor-days and geocaching-events in the region of Surselva/Graubünden in Switzerland to the exploring tours in the Müllerthal in Luxembourg and last but not least the first hiking tour with a firework display in the Hochschwarzwald

Experiencing fascinating rock formations on the Mullerthal Trail

Zeiss and the Müllerthal region invite you to experience hiking paired with far-sightedness and acumen. Promised: on our guided Zeiss-exploring-tour through rock formations in east Luxembourg the saying „Hiking with open eyes“ is being defined anew. Trained Mullerthal trail-scouts lead nature-loving hikers into a world largely unknown to them, a world which so far has gone nearly unnoticed, fallen by the wayside: „Discover the magic of details!“

img_9501.jpg

Hiking experience in the Müllerthal region
The early bird catchest he worm! This especially holds true for hikers who whish to experience nature extensively. Get out of the comfort zone, toss pillows and blankets aside, have a cup of coffee and a fresh croissant and put your hiking gear on, tie your shows and hit the road… There’s lots to explore in the Müllerthal region. It’s a good thing to be carrying binoculars made by Zeiss, either one’s own or one borrowed from the BoH-Testcenter in the Heringer Millen free of charge. Sometimes one needs to look twice to notice the “Old Lady” within the rock face opposite the Brenschenterley or to follow the bold squirrel climbing up a tree. The climb onto the platform alone is an adventure, likewise is the visit to the rolling waterfalls at the “Schiessentümpel” later during the day, where dippers are busy jumping from rock to rock. Whoever hikes through the rocky chaos of the „Kleine Luxemburger Schweiz“, watching their surroundings attentively, will discover such a variety of bizarre and adorable details that one hike alone will not be enough.

Climbing four ’800 m peaks’ in the Sauerland in three days sleeping in tents

Die Winterberger Hochtour in drei Tagen: 2.200 Höhenmeter, 82 Kilometer, vier Achthunderter. Eigentlich schon Herausforderung genug.

You will spend the night in tents designed my outdoor-specialist VAUDE. These are at your service on this tour free of charge. Arctic adventure weekend in the Bavarian Alps

Layers of snow are crunching beneath your feet. Thick snow flakes are falling from the sky. You can hear huskies howl somewhere far away. The greyish-brown dogs are looking at you with soft blue eyes, their fur covered in snow, seemingly begging for departure. Come on! Put on your snow shoes, grab your sledge and let yourself be taken into the midst of the snowy winter wonderland of the Ammergau Alps.

img_3829.jpg

Snow shoe tours, Husky-workshop and igloo-building
The Ammergau Alps are well suited for snow shoe tours – regardless of the level of experience of the person taking part, whether their level is a beginner’s, intermediate or advanced. There are several possibilities for tours for all levels, from decelerating hikes in teh flat valleys to acclaimed hikes up mountain tops. Granted there are secure snow conditions it is even possible to hike up to the villages Ettal, Ober- and Unterammergau, Saulgrub, Bad Kohlgrub and Bad Bayersoien which offer a magnificent view. Panoramic views of the Zugspitze and the Alpine foothills with their countless lakes serve as a reward for wintry hikers withstanding the freeze. Furthermore there are 70 kilometers of cleared and well-marked winter hiking trails at your service as well as 150 kilometers of cross country ski tracks. On a ride as the musher steering the dog sled the wintry landscape can be experienced from yet a different perspective. And what about the summer? Fantastic hiking trails across wildflower meadows and exciting fixed rope routes are waiting for hikers. Three mountain railways assist hikers with their uphill and downhill climbs and put several mountain tops within the reach of a day’s hike.

GPS-scavenger hunt for investigators who are either young or young at heart

Hidden treasures are waiting to be found in the Bündner Oberland in the northwest of Graubünden. Equipped with GPS-devices, pens, paper, and maps as well as a well filled backpack parents and children are headed for geo-caching in the surrounding mountain world. You will not need to bring your own technical devices. Modern treasure maps can be borrowed from the testcenter in Brigels.

img_0626.jpg

Geo-caching during the summer as well as in the winter
You can go treasure hunting in the Surselva all year. During both seasons many geocaches are waiting to be discovered between Rheinquellen, Rheinschlucht and Chur. With the help of mobile GPS-devices the young and the old hit the road. Team spirit and organizational talent are as much in demand as a good sense of orientation. Until the hiding places are found number codes and riddles have to be solved, questions about mystical incidents and about the local region have to be answered.
The puzzle consisting of all of the above hints will finally lead you to your destination. Geocaching Surselva can be approached as an adventurous tour full of surprises, a cosy family outing or a thrilling competition. Whether it be families, school groups or other small groups: it will be fun for everyone. Around Brigels you can find a winter-geocaching-trail especially designed for snow shoe hikers. Small, coloured flags mark the hiding places. If you ‚only’ whish to hike, you can download GPS-data and maps about hiking paths, alpine tours and snow shoe tours and even paths that lead to distant places like the Senda Sursilvana.

Climbing four ’800 m peaks’ in the Sauerland in three days sleeping in tents

The Winterberg Hochtour (alpine tour) in three days: 2.200 altitude meters, 82 kilometers, four 800 m peaks. This is enough of a challenge already. But instead of staying in warm beds and being served three course meals you will cook on open fires and spend the nights under open skies – or find shelter in a VAUDE-tent. Under the supervision of expert hiker Peter Kramer experienced hikers can test if they are adventurous or not.
