Kahler Asten – Siedlinghausen

It doesn’t get much higher in Northrhine-Westphalia than on the Kahler Asten (1). Only the Langenberg on the border to neighbouring state Hesse is two meters higher, but difference is taken care of by the observation tower. On the platform one can therefore enjoy a view spanning a larger area than anywhere else in the state. As happens often on the highest mountains one does not know where to look first. The viewer is not able to focus on one thing only. There’s one mountain range after the other, infinitely, all the way to the horizon. It easier to enjoy the great countryside while hiking downhill to Siedlinghausen, starting with a 200-meter-downhill climb across the northern slope to the Renau-valley. There’s a short challenging uphill climb to Altastenberg (2), which can also be reached directly and without having to ascent on the Kurweg, followed by a nice hike through meadows and forests to the Antoniusquelle next to the Großes Bildchen (3). From the Schafsbrücke (4) to the Himmelskrone a second ascent loosens the muscles (5)before the final descend via Silbach (6) and through the Tal der Namenlosen-valley to Siedlinghausen (7).
