Mullerthal Tail

Along the Untersauer

Starting point of this hike which is part of route 1 of the official Mullerthal Trail is Echternach (1), center of cultural activities of the region. We will hike to Untersauer (Rosport) from here.
At first the path leads us along the Sauer, the border river to Germany. Shortly past Echternach it leads us to the right and into the woods. We will reach open meadows including a nice view into the valley above the town of Steinheim (2) hiking past magnificent rocks while going there, before the path leads us into an enchanting forest not long before the following village called Rosport. In Rosport the Mullerthal Trail leads directly past the Tudor castle (3), tempting us to visit the museum which is hosted by the castle.
Hiking parallel to the Sauer we will pass the pilgrimage chapel Girsterklaus (4), which because of its prominent location offers a wonderful view across the fields into the Untersauer valley. Following the Mullerthal Trail downhill one can make a detour to the Kulturhaff Millermoler in Hinkel (5), where a tea salon invites visitors to linger and regional products are being sold. After this relaxing interlude we will hike on via the town of Born in the direction of Moersdorf (6). Above Moersdorf the local hiking trail M1 leads directly into the village.
