Canyons and waterfalls in the Hochschwarzwald-district

The premium hiking path Schluchtensteig runs through the Hochschwarzwald-district from the Wutachschlucht (canyon) via Lenzkirch and Schluchsee to St. Blasien. The contrast between the narrowness of the canyons and the broadness of the mountain meadows is one of a kind. At the very beginning after the Wutachmühle (1) the path suddenly dives down into the shadowy depths of Germany’s biggest canyon. There are rock faces left and right, the river is murmuring, plants are growing lusciously. This is what we will continue to see after our break at the Schattenmühle (2) – it is even going to be wilder and more natural. Only when we will step out of the narrow Haslachklamm into the light-flooded mountain valley of Lenzkirch (3) the landscape changes abruptly. The countryside which is typical for the Black Forest will be our guide on the following, canyon-free path into the lovely mountain village of Oberfischbach (4). A spectacular view on the Schluchsee and the Feldberg is what the place around the Bildstein has to offer shortly after. After swimming in the largest lake of the black forest there is still the hike through the forests of the mountain ranges around Blasiwald from Oberkrummen and via the Windberg-waterfall to St. Blasien to tackle.
