First hike including firework displays next to the Black Forest’s largest lake during the Seenachtsfest in Schluchsee
Mountains and valleys, dark forests, glittering lakes and above all the shining sun … or sparkling stars. LOWA and ten holiday places in the Hochschwarzwald are holding the first ever hike with firework displays during the 110th German Hiking Day on July 31. First there will be an 18-kilometer hike, then hikers will be able to enjoy fireworks high above the Schluchsee, the Black Forest’s largest lake.

Norbert Göppert, responsible for hiking and summer sports in the Hochschwarzwald, is looking forward to the first hike including firework displays during the German Hiking Day in the Hochschwarzwald: „It is important for hikers to be well equipped on this hike as it will last several hours. Solid trekking shoes should be worn and proper gear to be used during bad weather should be taken with as well as hiking sticks and snacks including enough fluids. Every hiker should be well aware of his or her physical fitness because the differences in altitude may be quite large. Only the person who is well enough equipped while hiking through the Black Forest will be able to enjoy the magnificent landscape and the fascinating steep tracks.“

Hochschwarzwald: Hiking adventure at night
When the sun is setting slowly on the horizon and the first stars are beginning to sparkle in the bluish-purple sky, it usually would be about time to put one’s hiking gear into the closet and exchange one’s outdoor equipment for evening wear.
But tonight everything’s different. Tonight we will keep on hiking. From a bright and radiant day into the adventure of an evening hike with firework displays. When have you done this for the last time? Certainly at some point in your childhood, including ghost stories and holding a flashlight in shaking hands. Well, today hands are not shaking (yet). Nevertheless there is this very distinct feeling. Shadows are growing bigger and bigger, are losing themselves in the dark forests. Here and there branches are crackling and little owls are screeching. Leading the way you can see your comrades’ flash lights moving up and down. Falling over roots is part of the game and causes people to laugh which in turn prevents everyone from getting too sleepy. It’s a good thing you are wearing solid shoes with non slippery soles. After the 18-kilometer hike to the Seenachtsfest Schluchsee the fireworks will be shown at 10:30pm. After the fireworks everyone will go back to Schluchsee station through the night.
