Following the trails of glass- and clog-makers

The art of glassmaking and the manufacturing of clogs have been two important economic factors next to the tourism industry in the Northern Vosges up to this day. In the 16th and 17th century the first communities were started around the glass-making huts. Their history is still being told in museums and exhibitions worth visiting. Open workshops allow for a glimpse over the shoulders of the glass-artists. You can divide the hiked into two circular paths thanks to a connecting route between the Meisenthal and the Celtic monolith of the "Pierre des 12 Apôtres" (1) which was Christianized in the 17th century. Depending on your mode of arrival you will either start at the glass hut in the Meisenthal (2) or at the railway station in Wingen-sur-Moder (3). Your goal is not only to visit the glass-art and crystal-museums in Meisenthal, Wingen and Saint-Louis-lès-Bitche (4) or the clog-museum in Soucht (5) which are all located directly on your way, but also to see the wonderfully quiet and hilly forest landscapes of the Pays de Bitche.
