From the "Hanauer Weiher" to the castle ruin of Ramstein

The peat bog at the western shore of the crystal Etang de Hanau (Hanauer Weiher) (1) is the only one of its kind in the Northern Vosges which is equipped with a nature trail.
Information on the developmental stages of a peat bog can be found on various information boards which also offer explanations on the rare animal and plant life that can be observed first-hand from the from a paths made of wooden planks. After this interlude this circular route will lead you to Baerenthal to the sensitive eco-system of the Etang de Lieschbach hidden in a conservation area and further onto the steep castle hill of Falkenstein (2). At the time of writing the castle ruin was still closed, but a reopening is planned for the near future. The castle ruin of Ramstein boldly sitting of a protruding rocky reef has already been remodelled
(4) It can be reached via Lieschbach (3). On you go climbing on stairs along rock faces and through a narrow cave in the rocks onto the small platform from which you have a magnificent view across the wide valley of Baerenthal (5). You can reward yourself for your efforts by diving into the waters of the Etang de Baerenthal before hiking back to where you came from on the GR 532 route which is marked by the colour yellow.
