Millewee

Fascinating mills and rocks

Tour number 2 of the official Mullerthal Trail connects the sites of two former mills in the villages of Consdorf and Mullerthal. The path runs along fascinating sandstone rocks. Weathering has launched long term processes which have imprinted honey-combed and groove-shaped patterns on the rocks. These patterns turn the rocks into individual, disproportional pieces of art.

The tour starts at the Consdorfer Mühle (mill) (1), today a hotel and restaurant. The narrow, winding path leads us along massive rocks and sometimes leads us through rock fissures.
Goldkaul, Goldfralay, Eulenburg, as well as Schelmelay and Ramelay are some of the names of the rocks which we will pass on our tour. The unique names often have their origin in myths and legends. Because of the weathering the sandstone rocks sometimes look like bizarre figures or faces.
The Schiessentümpel (2) is a picturesque waterfall close to the Schwarze Ernz. The water runs over the edge of the rock divided up into three currents into a rock basin below. The hiking path runs along the pond over an idyllic bridge made of stone and wood and consistently follows the course of the river in the direction of the town of Muellerthal at the base of the rocks towering high into the sky. The destination of the tour is the Heringer Mühle (mill) (3), once upon a time the most important mill in the region. It hasn’t been used for decades and is being renovated at the moment in order to host a tourist information center as well as a hiking center and restaurants and bars in the future. After that our destination ist he the starting point of our hike, the Consdorfer Mühle (1).
