Ammergau Alps Follow the trail of the ’Fairy Tale King’ in the Ammergau Alps: Around the forester’s lodge ’Unternogg’ you will hike through the scenic Halbammertal where King Louis II. of Bavaria used to have a hunting lodge. The hike from the forester’s lodge to Trauchgau or Steingaden on the so called king’s street also was a favourite travelling route of the king and offers, for example when taking a detour to the Schleierfaelle (waterfalls), great, wild and romantic insights into Bavarian natural landscape. This is also an excellent place to be for gourmets. The forester’s lodge serves exquisite game meat year round peak season being the game weeks in September in October. Whoever does not want to miss out on tender game meat once the vacation is over can buy his or her supply of such meat on site to take home.
